A positive path for spiritual living

Unity NW News - Spring/Summer 2017

UNITY NW NEWS               Spring/Summer 2017

Message from our Board Chair, Rev. Rich Broderhausen

Dear Friends in Unity,

May your summer days be filled with sunshine and warmth when you desire them and soft breezes and shade when you call for them. Adjusting to the ups and downs of every season can be a challenge. The same holds true for the seasons of life.

On Saturday April 29th, I attended the memorial service for Tony Sims, the husband of our dear Rev. Rosella Sims of Unity of Bremerton. It was a marvelous celebration of his life. Heartfelt thoughts and memories of Tony’s life and accomplishments actually brought him to life for me in a way. Three fabulous bands in which Tony, a most talented musician, had played, offered their unique sounds. Many of Tony’s musical instruments were displayed and there was a real sense of his presence there.  Let us continue to send our love and prayers to Rosella and all of Tony’s family. They are our family, too.

The very next day I was present at a packed house retirement celebration for Rev. Deidre Ashmore at Unity Spiritual Center of North Idaho in Coeur d’ Alene. It was terrific to hear from so many people whose lives Deidre and her husband Andrew have touched in beautiful and transforming ways, especially through their open, inviting hearts of love. The place was overflowing with good wishes, and some grief as well, at this formal close of the Deidre’s and Andrew’s service at the Church. Listening, it reminded me of how we affect people’s lives without necessarily knowing the fruit of our labors.

Just a few days ago I was told of the passing of Pastor Kathleen McKevitt who pioneered Unity Spiritual Center of Southern Idaho beginning June 21, 2015. Kathleen, a remarkable lady with profound wisdom and an indomitable spirit of adventure, was 72 years young. She delighted me with her determination to bring Truth to as many people who would experience her presence as a writer, journalist, spiritual healer, pastor and a chaplain over the years. Kathleen’s email address was OneLight.mckevitt.

ONE LIGHT!  What a precious reminder of the One Light that we all are, including Tony, Deidre, Andrew, and Kathleen. What a perfect reminder of the symbolic Light that shines 24 hours a day in Silent Unity as a beacon of hope and promise to the world, and especially to all of us who do the work of Unity. It shines for us!

Alive in this life or having moved on to the next, nothing can put out that One Light of the Spirit we share. Let us remember to let it brilliantly shine in us, as us and through us each day.

Let us remember to see and honor that One Light in everyone, no matter how brilliant or dim it may appear to us. To see the Light is to be the Light. To be the Light is to see the Light! Have a bright summer!

           Peace, Rich
