Message from our Board Chair,
Rev. Rich Broderhausen

Dear Friends in Unity,

Ministry is challenging. It challenges congregants who are devoted to a ministry. It challenges Board and staff, (if there is a staff) in the operation of the ministry. It challenges Spiritual leaders who are ultimately responsible for the spiritual direction of the ministry. Whether you are a congregant, board, staff or spiritual leader the challenges are many. You can name them on your own, I’m sure.

But the question is: “What is it that gives us the energy to keep facing the challenges?” Oh yes, it is Spirit Itself, for sure. It is also our commitment to our own spiritual journey, to each other and to the community of persons that we serve. We serve through our efforts and support; and sometimes simply by being present.

The Northwest Region of Unity Churches is also a community. As you know, we are looking forward to gathering together for Conference at Unity of Lynnwood in a few weeks. If you are reading this, you are part of this regional community.

Thank you to all those who have put time and energy into creating this gathering and thank you all who are already committed to be present. For those of you who are can come but have not made the commitment, I invite and encourage you to bless the community with your presence. As in your home community, just showing up can make vital difference.

Wishing You Peace from the Inside Out, Rich

Report from 2017
Unity People's Convention
"Keep Unity Wide Open"
Freed by Truth, Moving with Spirit

Our Convention overall raised provocative new questions and challenges:
Unity is in a transformative stage, and we can co-create our own evolution as a humanity with a profound sense of universal connectedness. Relevant to this theme was the work of the two keynote speakers, Father Gregory Boyle, and Doctor Shariff Abdullah.

Father Boyle related stories etched with pain and beauty from 25+ years working with "homies" in LA County. Boyle is the proof of the power of unconditional Love and Compassion in breaking through walls of despair, anger, and pain. From Boyle's NY Times Bestseller: Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion.

Shariff Abdullah, PhD. In his address invited us to look at how we can actually transform global challenges through Inclusivity-but only if we practice it. The practice is much more rigorous than just "liking" each other, protecting classes of people or even building a more equalitarian society. Creating a World That Works for All by Shariff M. Abdullah and Practicing Inclusivity: A Workbook for Transformation by Shariff M. Abdullah JD.

Unity's "Keeper of the Flame" Rev. Paulette Pipe so poignantly reminded us in prayer, "Keep Unity Wide Open; Freed by Truth; Moving with Spirit' Energetically Powerful."

Regional Financials from Board Treasurer, Jack Eckrem L.U.T.

Because of your continued support and the careful stewardship of costs by your Board of Trustees, we are continuing to recover from our past shortfalls. Through July 31, 2017, we continue to have a surplus of revenue over costs, which will allow us to repay part of the shortfall to our employees.

Since last reporting, these Ministries have received tithes from the Region:

  • Unity Spiritual Center, Spokane, WA
